This annual event provides an opportunity for community members to unite in the fight against Parkinson\u2019s disease, with all funds raised going to Parkinson Canada, the definitive voice of the over 100,000 Canadians living with Parkinson\u2019s today.<\/p>\n
On Saturday, November 3rd, the Lows in Motion<\/strong> organizing committee welcomed yet another sellout crowd to Saskatoon\u2019s Prairieland Park to celebrate its 10th<\/sup> –\u00a0 and final – anniversary. Over the past decade, this unique and energetic \u201cShaker\u201d has earned the reputation of a premier Saskatchewan event and one of Canada\u2019s most attended Parkinson\u2019s fundraiser.<\/p>\n Lows in Motion\u2019s mission has always been twofold: raise funds to support Parkinson Canada, and shed light on what it means to live with Parkinson\u2019s disease. Year after year, the committee has delivered on this goal by putting together an exceptional evening of music, comedy, and community.<\/p>\n \u201cEleven years ago my father was diagnosed with Parkinson\u2019s at the young age of 48. Since then our family has had the displeasure of witnessing how the progressive aspects of the disease have taken a toll on him \u2013 physically and cognitively,\u201d says Travis Low, founder of Lows in Motion. \u201cCreating this event was the least I could do to honour my grandfather\u2019s memory and support my dad in an effort to reduce the negative impacts of Parkinson\u2019s disease.\u201d<\/p>\n We at Parkinson Canada are honoured to be the chosen donor recipient for this event. Since 2009, Lows in Motion has raised an impressive $650,000 in net proceeds for our organization. This money has helped us facilitate six province-wide education conferences, expand our Saskatchewan support groups to 13, and make significant contributions to the Parkinson Canada Research Program.<\/p>\n To the organizing committee members, sponsors, volunteers, and nearly 9,000 individuals who have attended Lows in Motion over the years: thank you. Your generosity and support have given tremendous hope to the Parkinson\u2019s community.<\/p>\n \u201cWe are a community-based event and each year I am humbled by the tremendous outpour of community support. Together we are leading the charge against Parkinson\u2019s disease and that\u2019s truly a wonderful thing,\u201d says Travis Low.<\/p>\n This year, Joyce Gordon, CEO of Parkinson Canada, prepared a surprise video to acknowledge the dedication of Travis Low, founder of Lows in Motion<\/strong> along with all the volunteers who make it happen and especially, the generous donors who contributed over $650,000 in 10 years!<\/p>\n
