{"id":22173,"date":"2020-09-11T11:13:29","date_gmt":"2020-09-11T15:13:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.parkinson.ca\/?p=22173"},"modified":"2020-09-16T11:14:17","modified_gmt":"2020-09-16T15:14:17","slug":"parkinson-canada-and-mckesson-canada-to-bring-personal-touch-to-superwalk-supporters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archiveparkinson.thedev.ca\/fr\/parkinson-canada-and-mckesson-canada-to-bring-personal-touch-to-superwalk-supporters\/","title":{"rendered":"Parkinson Canada and McKesson Canada to Bring Personal Touch to SuperWalk Supporters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>TORONTO, September 11, 2020 \u2013<\/strong> This year marks the <strong>30th anniversary<\/strong> of <strong>Parkinson Canada SuperWalk<\/strong>, an annual event that allows thousands of Canadians to come together and walk in support of people living with Parkinson\u2019s disease.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the new social and fundraising landscape shaped by Covid-19, the 30th anniversary will be different this year.<\/p>\n<p>Since the campaign launched in May, participants took part in months of exercise-focused \u201cmini-campaigns\u201d designed to keep supporters engaged and people living with Parkinson\u2019s moving. Resources were shared throughout the spring and summer with a target of supporting achievement of 150 minutes of activity each week, in accordance with the <em>Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology\u2019s<\/em> guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>With a summer\u2019s worth of activity behind them, sights are being set on a live, online opening ceremony on <strong>Saturday, September 12th<\/strong> with a series of neighbourhood and bubble walks to follow.<\/p>\n<p>To support those local walks, Parkinson Canada has made Walk in a Box kits available to download and as a personal touch, will be mailing kits directly to households in time for them to support participants in <em>SuperWalk Your Way<\/em> on September 12.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA big part of SuperWalk has always been creating a sense of togetherness among participants. This year, it\u2019s important for us to offer the same connectivity to something larger than oneself and provide the opportunity to make personal meaning through the Walk despite limitations on public gatherings. We\u2019re proud to be sending some warmth into our walkers\u2019 homes at a time while they may be feeling disconnected,\u201d says <strong>Amanda Stanton<\/strong>, Interim Lead, Events and Partnerships.<\/p>\n<p>To support this endeavour, Parkinson Canada is leaning on walk sponsors. <strong>Burnbrae Farms<\/strong> has returned for the <strong>15th straight year<\/strong> to show solidarity with Canadians with Parkinson\u2019s and <strong>McKesson Canada<\/strong> has sponsored the <em>Walk in a Box<\/em> program to make sure that SuperWalk supporters can celebrate meaningfully.<\/p>\n<p>McKesson was a natural partner for this project, as a Canadian company at the forefront of healthcare transformation. This includes a new initiative between McKesson-partner pharmacies,  and <strong>Catalyst Healthcare<\/strong>, aimed at improving quality of care for Canadians with Parkinson\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2017 the first Canadian\u2014a grandfather with Parkinson\u2019s disease\u2014welcomed our <em>\u2018spencer\u2019<\/em> medication dispenser featuring McKesson pouch packaging, into his home. Since then we have been proudly working with amazing pharmacists, caregivers, and patients to help medications be taken as prescribed. Catalyst and McKesson Canada are excited to sponsor Parkinson Canada SuperWalk, which embodies the goal of living well with Parkinson\u2019s,\u201d shared <strong>Shane Bishop<\/strong>, CEO of Catalyst.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Parkinson Canada SuperWalk<\/strong> will take place <strong>Saturday, September 12th<\/strong> with families across the country using their <em>\u00ab\u00a0Walk in a Box\u00a0\u00bb<\/em> kits to follow an <strong>11:00 AM ET live online opening ceremony<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Parkinson Canada is almost exclusively funded by private donations, and SuperWalk plays a major role in the ability to deliver support, service and hope to Canadians with Parkinson\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>This year, more than ever, the need to stand up to Parkinson\u2019s together is clear.
