Isabel Ward, left, with husband Allan and Parkinson Society Canada President & CEO, Joyce Gordon.<\/p><\/div>Congratulations to Isabel Ward of Ingersoll, Ontario, who was recently awarded Parkinson Society Canada\u2019s volunteer honour, the David Simmonds Parkinson\u2019s Leadership Award.<\/p>\n

A devoted volunteer with Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario and Parkinson Society Canada, Isabel has given a tremendous amount of time and energy to the Parkinson\u2019s cause.<\/p>\n

\u201cIsabel Ward is a tireless volunteer and advocate for Parkinson\u2019s. She is an excellent example of sharing knowledge, expertise and wisdom. A true leader, Isabel is devoted to making the world a better place for Canadians living with Parkinson\u2019s. We are delighted to celebrate her volunteer contributions,\u201d said Joyce Gordon, CEO of Parkinson Society Canada.<\/p>\n

Isabel\u2019s dedication to the Parkinson\u2019s community is reflected in her own words \u201cGet involved. Give back. Make a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n

She began volunteering for Parkinson Society Canada and Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario after her husband Allan was diagnosed with Parkinson\u2019s. When she retired from her career as a secondary school teacher, she quickly increased her volunteer involvement.<\/p>\n

An active fundraiser, Isabel has been involved in several campaigns to raise funds for Parkinson\u2019s research and support services in Canada. As facilitator of the Woodstock Parkinson\u2019s Support Group, she provides information and support to people with Parkinson\u2019s and their families.<\/p>\n

Among her many contributions as a volunteer, Isabel has served as Chair of the Advisory Board of Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario (2001-2011) and as a member of Parkinson Society Canada\u2019s Board of Directors (2000-2006). Many committees, such as the Ontario Advocacy Committee and the National Support Services Committee, benefited from her leadership skills.<\/p>\n

\u201cIsabel continues to be a source of inspiration and a role model for many of us who are fighting hard to create a better world for those living with Parkinson\u2019s,\u201d said David J. Lipson, former member of the Board of Parkinson Society Canada and Advisory Board of Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario.<\/p>\n

The David Simmonds Parkinson\u2019s Leadership Award honours the contributions and charisma of David Simmonds, past Chair of Parkinson Society Canada (1999-2001) who, through his exceptional vision, leadership, negotiation skills, perseverance and commitment, redefined and strengthened the voice of Canadians living with Parkinson\u2019s.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
