{"id":32312,"date":"2021-10-25T08:00:43","date_gmt":"2021-10-25T12:00:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.parkinson.ca\/?p=32312"},"modified":"2022-01-07T15:39:00","modified_gmt":"2022-01-07T20:39:00","slug":"new-childrens-book-raises-awareness-for-parkinsons-disease","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archiveparkinson.thedev.ca\/fr\/new-childrens-book-raises-awareness-for-parkinsons-disease\/","title":{"rendered":"New children&rsquo;s book raises awareness for Parkinson&rsquo;s disease"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"h5 bot-mar-1em\">Sasha Au Yong, a recent graduate of Pickering College in Newmarket, Ontario, has just published her first book, <cite>Something&rsquo;s Different About Grandpa<\/cite>.<\/p>\n<p>Sasha wrote and illustrated this children&rsquo;s storybook for her winning Global Leadership Program Capstone Action Project in support of Parkinson Canada. The book is suitable for all ages and is a great way for adults to teach young children about Parkinson&rsquo;s disease.   <\/p>\n<p>Sasha&rsquo;s book is the culmination of a long process: she began work on this action project as part of the Global Leadership Program at the beginning of Grade 11 with an in-depth research paper on Parkinson&rsquo;s Disease. In Grade 12, Sasha and her classmates were tasked with taking action on their chosen issue. After considering the best way to spread awareness about Parkinson&rsquo;s Disease, Sasha decided to write and illustrate her own book. On <time datetime=\"2021-04-30\">Friday, April 30<\/time>, Pickering College hosted a virtual pitch competition, the culminating activity for the school&rsquo;s Grade 12 students.  <\/p>\n<p>Sasha&rsquo;s book is available as a free <abbr title=\"Portable Document Format\">PDF<\/abbr> on our website, and you can <a href=\"https:\/\/donate.parkinson.ca\/site\/TR\/EIB\/FundraisingYourWay?px=1245361&#038;pg=personal&#038;fr_id=2415\">support her project<\/a> by making a donation directly to her campaign.<\/p>\n<p>The hard-copy version is also available for delivery in Canada and internationally.
