World Parkinson Day is April <\/span>11<\/span><\/span>th<\/span><\/span>. As part of <\/span><\/span>Parkinson Awareness Mont<\/span>h<\/span><\/span><\/a>, Parkinson Canada is celebrating the strength and resilience of people affected by Parkinson\u2019s. <\/span>For everything that challenges you when living with Parkinson’s, you can also gain grace, perspective, <\/span>strength<\/span> and patience. It is still possible to live well with Parkinson\u2019s with support and connection.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There are so many ways to get involved on April 11<\/span><\/span>th<\/span><\/span> and beyond:<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Parkinson Canada <\/span>is hosting an <\/span><\/span>event on April 11 at Yonge<\/span>–<\/span>Dundas Square in Toronto<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, from 1-3<\/span> p.m. EST. <\/span>We\u2019ll<\/span> welcome <\/span>partners including Dancing w<\/span>ith Parkinson<\/span>\u2019<\/span>s and Passion for Parkinson<\/span>\u2019<\/span>s, who will lead a dance program and sit-to-stand challenge, respectively. Martha Johnson, <\/span>formerly <\/span>of Martha and the Muffins<\/span> now Martha and Co.<\/span>, will release a song called <\/span>\u201c<\/span>Slow Emotion<\/span>\u201d<\/span> \u2013 written and recorded with people living with Parkinson\u2019s<\/span>. Martha herself has been living with Parkinson\u2019s for <\/span>a number of<\/span> years and will be at the event to share the song and a short documentary about the making of the song. <\/span><\/span>Register here: https:\/\/fb.me\/e\/3wC21jBhw<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/b><\/b><\/li>\n
  2. Participate in your own <\/span><\/b>Sit-to-Stand challenge<\/span><\/a> as part of <\/span>a global movement, dedicated to raising awareness and support for people living with Parkinson\u2019s. Research shows that people with Parkinson\u2019s often struggle with movements like sit-to-stand due to bradykinesia, or slowness of movement. A sit-to-stand is the transitional movement of going from a seated position to an upright standing position. By joining the Sit-to-Stand Challenge, you’ll help raise awareness of these challenges and contribute to ongoing efforts to improve treatment and support for those with Parkinson\u2019s. Share your challenge on social media using hashtags like #standup2PD and #sit2stand.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Join our Facebook Challenge<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/a> to<\/span> a<\/span>lso <\/span>provide<\/span> an opportunity to contribute to Parkinson Canada’s vital programs and research initiatives.
