The success of this national research program depends on the contributions we receive from donors, charitable foundations and other granting agencies. PSC does not receive any government funding.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Our focus<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>75% of funding is dedicated to biomedical research which focuses on finding a cure.<\/li>\n<li>25% of funding is directed to clinical, health services and systems and population studies.<\/li>\n<li>PSC\u2019s psychosocial research stream complements the biomedical research and helps increase our understanding of the quality of life issues that people with Parkinson\u2019s and caregivers face.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Promising areas of research<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>causes of PD<\/li>\n<li>complications of PD<\/li>\n<li>biomarkers<\/li>\n<li>neuroprotection<\/li>\n<li>dopamine development<\/li>\n<li>psychosocial research<\/li>\n<li>cognition and dementia<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Selecting projects<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All research applications to the National Research Program undergo a rigorous peer review process overseen by the top Canadian scientists in Parkinson\u2019s research who sit on PSC\u2019s Scientific Advisory Board. Only applications with the highest ratings for scientific excellence and relevance to Parkinson\u2019s are chosen for funding.
