{"id":657,"date":"2008-12-01T12:02:59","date_gmt":"2008-12-01T17:02:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/parkinson.netfirms.com\/epp_e\/?p=657"},"modified":"2008-12-01T12:02:59","modified_gmt":"2008-12-01T17:02:59","slug":"whats-new-in-parkinsons-disease-medications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archiveparkinson.thedev.ca\/fr\/whats-new-in-parkinsons-disease-medications\/","title":{"rendered":"What&rsquo;s new in Parkinson&rsquo;s disease medications?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Azilect<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> reported to have potential to affect progression<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--StartFragment-->On\u00a0<span lang=\"EN-CA\">August 26, 2008 a news release issued by Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., manufacturers of the drug, Azilect<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, reports that the<strong> <\/strong><\/span><span lang=\"EN-CA\">results of the ADAGIO phase 3 trial indicate that early treatment with 1 mg of Azilect supports the potential for Azilect to have an effect on the progression of Parkinson\u2019s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\">The news release was issued at the 12<sup>th<\/sup> Congress of European Federation of Neurological Societies in Madrid, Spain. The data have yet to be published in a peer-reviewed journal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\">Since 2006, Azilect<strong><sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/strong><\/span><span lang=\"EN-CA\"> has been approved by Health Canada for treating Parkinson\u2019s symptoms, however the only provincial drug plan that provides coverage is Quebec. The medication may be covered under private insurance plans<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\"><strong>Stalevo<span>\u2122<\/span> now covered under Quebec drug plan<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\">As of October 2008, Stalevo<span>\u2122<\/span> has been approved and is now available in Quebec. The Common Drug Review (CDR) has recommended that it also be listed in other provinces.
